Chlorella

Chlorella is a freshwater algae with very interesting properties. In contrast to Spirulina it's a single cell with a cell nucleus and thus belongs to the family of microalgae. It is microscopic and deep green in colour. It owes its colour to its extraordinarily high chlorophyll content, which is not found in any other plant. In its chemical structure chlorophyll is almost identical to haemoglobin, which is responsible for the red colour and the transport of oxygen in the blood. The only difference is that haemoglobin has an iron atom in the middle and chlorophyll a magnesium atom. Therefore we can safely say that chlorophyll is probably the most valuable food when it comes to blood health.

In conjunction with organic minerals, chlorophyll cleans the blood of harmful substances. It binds all sorts of toxins and ensures rapid and comprehensive elimination via the intestines. This relieves the liver immensely, because otherwise it would have to do this work all by itself. In fact, chlorophyll exerts its protective effect not only on the liver but on all cells in the body. As a strong alkaline antioxidant it eliminates free radicals, reduces inflammation and thus counteracts the development of cancer. 1 2

Chlorophyll is not the only valuable compound we find in chlorella. It contains an abundance of phytochemicals, proteins, fibre, vitamins and essential minerals. The german Zentrum der Gesundheit lists the following ingredients: Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 , B9, C, D, E, K, biotin, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, iron, zinc, manganese, copper and selenium. Sometimes you see indications of a high vitamin B12 content on the packaging. This should be treated with caution, as this value can fluctuate a lot and it's still not known what is responsible for these fluctuations.

I have been using chlorella regularly in my smoothies for years for a general detox. The colour of the smoothies is debatable. However, the positive effect is undisputed. Chlorella is essential for removing aluminium and mercury from the body. Combine it with zeolite to make it a powerful detox tool.
